VOUT

JOHN VOUT.
MARY.

Child of John and Mary:

WILLIAM VOUT born in 1760 or 1761 at Cawston.
1786 7th August. Married ANN CHILVERS at Gt. Dunham, dau. of Thomas and Mary Chilvers.
1811 17th July. Burial of wife in Little Dunham Churchyard.
1840 6th May Burial in Little Dunham Churchyard.
Children: John Vout 1786, Mary Vout 1788, Thomas Vout 1790, William Vout 1792, Ann Vout 1794, William Vout 1795, Robert Vout 1797, Henry William Vout 1800, Elizabeth Vout 1802, Martha Vout 1804, Charlotte Vout 1806, George Vout 1808, Susanna Vout 1811.

Note: From his age at burial William Vout was born around 1760. The only records about for a William born during that period is at Cawston where there are three! One born to a Joseph has been discounted as he appears to have died young but the other two are both sons of a John and Mary. These are also the names of William Vout's first two children. The real problem is there were two John Vouts both with a wife Mary having children baptised in Cawston.

Children baptised in Cawston with parents John and Mary:
1753 6th October - Anne Vout
1755 10th August - John Vout
1758 16th July - Thomas Vout
1760 12th October - William Vout
1761 19th June - William Vout
1763 6th April - John Vout
1764 14th October - Mary Vout
1766 30th March - Elizabeth Vout
1769 24th March - Jane Vout
1770 7th March - Mary Vout
1772 1st March - Rachel Vout - bur. 19th April 1773.
1773 2nd February - Rachel Vout
1775 2nd July - Sarah Vout

Only the marriage for one of the John and Marys is recorded in taking place at Cawston.
1760 19th May John Vout to Mary Winnett both single.

It appears Vout is an old Welsh surname but it was originally of German origin. By the seventeenth century the name was in use in both Holland and France. In England this surname was perculiar to Norfolk and the earliest records, at the moment, seem to be from Norwich and the northern part of the county around the Blickling area.
