PHILIP OXLEY or OXE.
Married Sarah.
1802 Burial at Thorpe-le-Soken.
CHILDREN of Philip and Sarah:
PHILIP OXLEY or Oxe 1763 Baptised on the 28th of August at Great Bentley.
1789 23rd February. Married Elizabeth Palmer at Mistley. Philip (Hoxley) of Thorpe-le-Soken.
Children: Philip Oxley 1789, Jonathan Oxley 1791, Elizabeth Oxley 1793, Ann Oxley 1796, Jonas Oxley 1799, William Oxley 1802, James Oxley 1803, William Oxley 1806.
HONOR OXLEY or Oxe 1765 Baptised on the 5th May at Great Bentley.
1768 2nd February. Burial at Great Bentley.
THERE IS FURTHER RESEARCH TO DO - In Great Bentley registers are four marriages:
Philip Oxe or Oxey, single, married Sarah White in 1758.
Philip Oxe married Sarah Olive in 1762.
Philip Oxe, widower, married Mary Griggs 1768.
Philip Oxley, widower, married Sarah Clark on the 14th February 1792.
The burials or baptisms for Great Bentley have not been seen so am not sure if this is one, two or more Philip Oxleys but I think likely just one making the mother of Philip and Honor Sarah Olive or Olave. Philip Oxley was buried in 1802 at Thorpe, where son Philip was then living.
Philip Oxley or Oxe looks likely to be a child of the Philip Oxe who married Honour Newstead at Sotterley in Suffolk in 1730. Baptisms for the children of Philip and Honour could have been recorded in Suffolk or Essex and none have been found so far.
There was a previous marriage at Sotterley of a Philip Oxe to an Ann Gilbert in 1725. Have not seen any baptisms or burials for Sotterley but if this was the first wife of the Philip who later married Honour Newstead then a baptism for him is likely to be somewhere around 1700.
Not far from Sotterley, at South Elmham St. Margaret, a marriage took place in 1684 of a Philip Oxe and a Mary Greene but again no baptisms of any children seen as yet.
At South Elmham St. Michael a Batholomew Oxe and his wife Philip! had the following children: Samuel 1663-1664, Elizabeth 1665 and Mary in 1668. A Batholomew Oxe was buried there in 1670.
Another Batholomew Oxe had a son William baptised in 1616 at Halstead in Suffolk. No baptisms have been found for either of the Batholomews. There were others with the surname Oxe at Halstead in Suffolk.
