THERE IS FURTHER RESEARCH TO DO - A Thomas Twite married Elizabeth Wyne in 1702 at East Dereham. They had children at East Dereham, Elizabeth 1708, Anthony 1710 and Sarah 1711. Perhaps he was a brother to Matthew senior, or more likely connected to the family of Anthony Twight of Wells below.
Another possible relative is Godfrey Twight/Twaites who married Jane Spooner in 1738, at North Elmham, and had children, Hamond in 1750 and Mary 1752 at Gressenhall.
There is a will for an Anthony Twight, of Wells-next-the-Sea, an innholder, dated 1741 who leaves some money to his three brothers Thomas, James and Godfrey, and everything else to his second wife Ann. His first wife Barbara was buried in 1703. Second wife Ann was buried, as a widow, aged 92, in 1762. Anthony's brother James may have married the Phebe that was buried in 1737 in Wells.
An Anthony and Mary Twight having children at Bury St. Edmunds during the second half of the 1600s that may be connected to the Wells Twights.
There is no sign of any Matthew Twites so he may, possibly, have been from a separate family, and it is just a coincidence that both the families turned up at Gressenhall and East Dereham. There are some more wills to read that may be useful.
The burial places of Matthew's son Thomas of Scarning, Grisnold and Gressenhall, and his wife Mary (Villars), have not turned up yet. There may have had other children. There may also have been more children born to his brother Matthew and his wife Marjory, and also to his parents, Matthew and Mary.
TWITE - According to a surname project based at the University College in London the surname of Twite is an English regional name. The surmane have originated in Norfolk. The Swaffham area appears, at the time of writing, to have the earliest records albeit in several spelling variations.
